Timma alternative: booking without a 20% fee on new clients

Compare Timma and Calendia on price, marketplace commission and features, and see when each one is the better fit for your salon or clinic.

Looking for a Timma alternative? Most salons that start comparing do so for one reason: since June 2025 Timma charges 20% of the first booking for every new client who finds you through its marketplace. Calendia has no marketplace and takes no commission on any booking: you pay for the software and keep what your clients pay.

This article compares the two honestly, including the cases where Timma is the better choice.

What does Timma cost?

According to Timma's own pricing and help pages (checked October 2026):

  • Timma Pro starts from about €20 per user per month, and the price stops growing above six users.
  • SMS reminders cost €0.08 + VAT per message. This replaced the earlier fixed SMS package in 2025.
  • Marketplace commission is 20% of the booking price for a new client's first visit, when the client found you through timma.fi or the Timma app. It was 15% until 1 June 2025.

Timma says the commission averaged 6.64% of all its marketplace bookings over the last year, because returning clients are free. For a salon that gets many new clients from the marketplace, the real share can be much higher. A 90 € colour for a new client costs 18 € in commission on top of the subscription.

What does Calendia cost?

Calendia has two billing models, and you choose one:

  • Per bookable employee: a fixed monthly price for each person who takes bookings. Receptionists and managers who never take bookings are free.
  • Per completed booking: a small fee per completed appointment. Cancellations and no-shows are not charged.

There is no commission, no setup fee and no binding period. Subscriptions run month to month. See the current prices for your country on the pricing page, where a calculator works out both models side by side.

When is Timma the better choice?

  • You get a large share of your new clients from the Timma app and accept the commission as a marketing cost.
  • You run a salon in Finland and want a system where most of your local colleagues already are.
  • You want a cash register declared in Sweden. Timma is on Skatteverket's list of manufacturer-declared registers.

When is Calendia the better choice?

  • Most of your clients already know you and book through your own website, Instagram or Google profile. Then a marketplace fee is money you do not need to spend.
  • You want one price you can predict, without a percentage of your best new bookings.
  • You run a clinic and need journals, consent forms and access logging in the same system as your calendar.
  • You want deposits, gift cards, loyalty, payroll and accounting integrations without add-ons from different vendors.
